Chair Welcome Message

Mayor Afronti

Welcome to the Hillsborough County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), your resource agency for transportation planning. Mandated by federal and state law, the MPO is responsible for establishing priorities to meet short-term (next 5 years) and long-term multi-modal transportation needs for Tampa, Temple Terrace, Plant City and unincorporated Hillsborough County.

2035 Plan

As we update the Long Range Transportation Plan through the year 2035, the opportunity to improve quality of life through better transportation decision-making is now. The MPO Board has placed a high priority on providing multi-modal transportation choices that will improve livability, sustainability, mobility, accessibility and connectivity as well as support strong economic growth for our community. The Vision Statement adopted at our February meeting is the foundation of the plan being developed. You are key to identifying and prioritizing a menu of project needed to fulfill the vision. Click on the 2035 Plan folder under What’s Happening so you can stay engaged throughout the planning process.

Economic Stimulus

The MPO has approved a list of priority projects potentially eligible for the economic stimulus funding in accordance with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for 2009. Top priority was placed on a $450 million project connecting Interstate 4, the Selmon Crosstown Expressway and the Port of Tampa. With an eye on creating jobs now and improving our transportation system as soon as possible, this project will reroute truck traffic out of historic Ybor City, off SR 60 and along Causeway Boulevard while supporting the Port, the region’s largest economic engine. For more information on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, visit recovery.gov or flarecovery.com online. The Florida Department of Transportation provides a status report on transportation projects being implemented in our state at www.dot.state.fl.us/planning/economicstimulus.
